National Geographic Adventure named the Allegheny River one of the nation's top 40 Best Fall Weekend Getaways

Every summer, hundreds of people travel to northwestern Pennsylvania to canoe and kayak the Allegheny River. It’s easy to understand why. The Allegheny is part of the nation’s Wild and Scenic Rivers System. It boasts several campgrounds, trails, historical sites and other points of interest, such as the Allegheny National Forest. Paddlers share the calm and scenic waterway with eagles, Great Blue Heron, snapping turtles, white tailed-deer and many other species. In 2003, National Geographic Adventure named the Allegheny River one of the nation's "40 Great Fall Weekend Getaways". Whether you’re looking for a relaxing day trip with your buddies or an overnighter to teach the kids camping skills, we’re here to help. Just be careful – you might get hooked. Some of our groups have been coming back for more than 20 years.

Allegheny Outfitters has been around since the early 1980s. Our family bought the business in 2007. We also own another livery downriver, called Indian Waters Canoe & Kayak Livery. We are paddlers and anglers ourselves and take pride in learning everything we can about the river so we can pass that knowledge on to you. We also strive to be good stewards of the Allegheny so its beauty can be enjoyed for generations to come.

New Trips and Services for 2009

Check out the First Annual Allegheny River Clean-Up! FIRST ANNUAL ALLEGHENY RIVER CLEAN-UP: Allegheny Outfitters is proud to be sponsoring and organizing the First Annual Allegheny River Clean-Up! Our goal is to pick up trash along 31 miles of the Allegheny River, from Kinzua Dam to Tidioute, over five days in September. Our mission is to promote stewardship of the Allegheny River watershed and highlight how it has been, and continues to be, an important recreational, ecological and economic asset to Warren County. We also hope to promote a spirit of giving back to the community. We encourage everyone to get involved in our 5-day cleanup this fall. For details on how to participate, click here.

ALLEGHENY WILDERNESS ISLAND KAYAK TOUR
: The Allegheny hosts some of the best remaining populations of freshwater plants and animals in the world. Let us show you what’s so special about the Allegheny River and Allegheny National Forest by having our nature guide paddle along side your group to give you the inside scoop about local flora, fauna and natural history. In the past we’ve spotted bald eagle, heron, merganser, turtles, deer and many other critters. This trip meets at our sister livery, Indian Waters (5 miles north of Tidioute on Route 62) at 1:00 pm every Wednesday. Trip includes a three mile paddle and exploration of a wilderness island, $40 pp. Size is limited, reservations required. Check out all of our trips here.
