Dates: Tuesday, June 25, 2024; Tuesday, July 9, 2024; Tuesday, August 20, 2024

Our Intro to River Kayaking course will focus on understanding the features of a river (downstream and upstream V, eddy, eddy lines, hydraulics, holes, seams and standing waves, etc) to better "read the river" while paddling. Participants will learn about natural and man-made hazards on a river system and how they affect the paddling environment.

Stretch of river covered will depend on river conditions. This course may take participants to the caution area behind United, stopping to gain a better understanding of river features at this spot and how they affect the paddling environment.

Participants will leave with a better understanding of US Army Corps of Engineers outflow from Kinzua Dam, monitoring those levels, and how they affect the paddling experience. Participants will also fine-tune strokes and maneuvers learned in the Intro to Kayaking course.

Please note: This course will have participants making several stops, getting in and out of boats multiple times. Participants should be prepared with sturdy water shoes.

Class size limited to four participants. All courses meet at AO and begin at 10:00am. After signing up and completing checkout, you’ll be emailed a welcome packet and course outline within 72 hours.

Prerequisite: Intro to Kayaking (Or 2 years experience on moving water.)
