Backpacking Gear Rentals

There are very few National Forests east of the Mississippi, and only one in Pennsylvania. With over 200 miles of hiking trails, the Allegheny National Forest offers a variety of backpacking experiences. Not sure which trail to tackle on your next adventure? We're here to help! Along with our backpacking gear rentals, our team is ready to recommend our favorite trails, and help you plan accordingly. (You can find our go-to backpacking trails in this blog post.) Feel free to Contact us for more information on local trails.

We offer high quality, ultralight backpacking gear rentals from Deuter, Mountain Safety Research (MSR), and Platypus, for a minimal fee in hopes that you'll be more comfortable on your trek - and ultimately get hooked on being out there. We give a thorough run-down of how each piece of gear works prior to your departure. All backpacking gear rental checkouts take place at AO store in downtown Warren.

Water Filters

The last thing we want to do when we get to camp is spend energy on pumping water. Ultralight, ultracompact and versatile, the pump-free Platypus GravityWorks 2.0L Complete Kit makes it easy to filter water for 1-4 people. Whether directly into the included flexible bottle, a separate hard bottle or a hydration reservoir in a pack, filtering water is fast and easy thanks to gravity.

Cooking Stoves

Not only is the Reactor Stove System the fastest and most fuel efficient stove ever made, it’s the only one that delivers that level of performance in the cold and wind of the real world. While that might sound like hype, take a look at these test results and see exactly what that means to you in the field. Simply put, you’ll burn less fuel, carry less fuel, and move faster than with any other stove available. MSR Pocket Rocket also available.

MSR Reactor Stove - $7/2 days ($3 each add'l day)

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove - $4/2 days ($2 each add'l day)
