Wages start at $8/hour (not much, we realize, but there are tips and free boat rentals, too - and you'll be working with a fun group of folks who appreciate you). Flexible work schedule. Must be willing to learn about the river, enjoy talking to tourists, have a good driving record and be able to lift 50 pounds.

Student Conservation Association Recruiting 2010

These are the 13 Intern positions for which Student Conservation Association is currently recruiting.  Applicants do not have to be current students. Recruiting is taking place NOW, so don't delay if you have someone in mind.

Ten (10) Interns (16 week details) for trail inventory, interpretive/educational programs, wildlife/heritage inventory, dispersed recreation inventory and management.  All positions are May 1-15 through September 1-15.

Trail Inventory Interns (4 positions, field-going, Warren Duty Station) – conduct priority condition surveys on Allegheny National Forest trails (including hiking, biking, equestrian, cross-country skiing, geocache, snowmobile, ATV and OHV trails), update data bases.

Dispersed Recreation Inventory and Management Interns (2 positions, field-going, Warren Duty Station) – conduct priority inventory and condition surveys of dispersed recreation sites (including campsites, day use areas, unauthorized trails, and gathering spots), update data bases.

Interpretive/Educational Interns (2 positions, field and office, Bradford and Marienville Duty Stations) – develop and conduct trail-based interpretive programs at campgrounds and administrative sites, update trail-based brochures and educational print materials, develop web-based trail-based interpretive and educational materials, work with local educators to establish trail-based school year programs to be conducted by ANF personnel, general visitor contact and information at trailheads and on trails.

Wildlife and Heritage Inventory Interns (1 wildlife position/1 heritage positions OR two heritage positions, field-going, Bradford, Warren or Marienville Duty Station) – work with ANF staff specialists on plant, wildlife and archaeological surveys in support of trail maintenance projects and proposed projects.  

Three (3) SCA Trails Maintenance Interns to perform general trail maintenance and project work.  These positions will work with the Lead Trail intern as a Trail Crew, in conjunction with other SCA Crews, or independently. May 1-15 to September 1-15 assignment each of 4 years - may be rehired annually. Marienville Duty Station.

In addition, SCA is gathering applicants for the National High School Crews.  These are strictly volunteer positions, but include intensive training and skill development, akin to the old YCC residential camp experience, with very motivated young people interested in service work.  Use any of the three contact options above if you have youth interested in this opportunity.
